Seniors Helping Seniors® In-Home Care Franchise Celebrates 24th Anniversary

Seniors Helping Seniors® in-home services, founded as a non-profit in 1998 in Reading, Pennsylvania, by husband-and-wife team Philip Yocom and Kiran Yocom, was founded on the belief that seniors who help each other can age happily and gracefully—and that seniors who give, and those who receive, both benefit from The Power of Love®. 24 years later, that brand has grown to 100+ locations across the country and has no plans to slow down anytime soon.

Seniors Helping Seniors® franchise system is also a continuation of Kiran’s work with Mother Teresa who she worked closely with as an adolescent and throughout her young adulthood in India. After Kiran moved to the U.S. and married Philip, the Yocoms were so inspired by Mother Teresa’s servant leadership that the pair decided to establish an organization that promoted exceptional care and understanding for an often-ignored segment of the population—seniors.

Rutherford County, TN owner Danielle Rutherford was immediately drawn to the brand after two decades in social work and launched her business in July of 2022. Her decision to join the team is just one indicator of how the Seniors Helping Seniors® vision, mission and values flow through the franchise partner team across the globe.

“In the social work industry, a majority of people will pick pediatrics for their focus, but not me,” says Rutherford. “I knew I wanted to work with the geriatric population. When I started an internship at the VA working in their long-term care unit, I found out quickly that if someone comes into long-term care and is discharged, they still require services to help with their healing.

From the very beginning, I knew that’s how I wanted to help, that this is exactly what I wanted to do. That’s what I truly love about working with seniors. What is their story? How can I help them age at home successfully? How can I play a small role to help them to make their story great? I know now that I can do that with Seniors Helping Seniors® in-home care.”

The in-home care service franchise helps seniors maintain their independence while brightening their lives by pairing them with fellow seniors who are carefully matched to their specific needs, personality and preferences. In this way, not only do Seniors Helping Seniors® clients have the opportunity to age in place with dignity, but they receive compassionate and empathetic care.

By hiring seniors to help seniors, the brand is creating meaningful employment opportunities for a demographic that is frequently at risk of being underutilized.

“The differentiating force of Seniors Helping Seniors® services in the senior care industry is our mission to bring The Power of Love® to senior communities across the country,” said President Namrata Yocom-Jan. “What was missing in the senior care space was the love, kindness, companionship and understanding that we provide. Our caregivers and franchise owners are
passionate about servant leadership and committed to bringing love into the lives of seniors with dignity and respect.”

Further differentiating the Seniors Helping Seniors® franchise from other brands in the eldercare space is its commitment to hiring senior caregivers, which provides employment opportunities for retirees and better cultivates meaningful relationships between caregivers and care receivers. Retired seniors have the opportunity to enjoy a flexible schedule, earn extra income, and lend a hand with a fellow senior’s daily living needs.

“We’ve put a lot of work into these last two decades to make sure the mission has remained the same,” Yocom-Jan continued. “We have and will continue to ensure that Seniors Helping
Seniors® in-home care is not only the best option for clients in every community we serve, but also for caregivers.”
